The Opals have just defeated Barzil to make it through to the gold medal playoff in the Women's basketball world championships

Australia somehow overcame a quiet night from Lauren Jackson, a big final-quarter deficit and a vociferous home crowd to defeat Brazil 88-76 and earn a shot at a first gold medal at the women's basketball world championship today.

The host nation led 66-57 early in the last term of a gripping semi-final, but the Opals stormed home courtesy of some hot shooting to stun a devastated Brazil at Ibirapuera Arena.

They will now play Russia who defeated USA 75-68

And beat them they did. The Opals have won the World Championship Gold Medal game; 91 to 74.
