Fair to say that the rule changes have not positively impacted scoring. Essendon is the only club so far to have scored over 100 points...
Be interesting to see where the AFL goes from here in its pursuit of higher scoring.
New rules and scoring
New rules and scoring
Like sand through the hour glass, so are the days at the Essendon Football Club.
Re: New rules and scoring
They’ll change the rules yet again,as they always do.They can’t help themselves here.
Re: New rules and scoring
Worked a treat haven't they (not)?
The hands in the back is now a crapshoot being exploited by some ("Stager" Brown of Norf springs to mind) and the "run on" 50m now results in close to 70m penalties cos the ump is too busy to keep an eye out on the players to properly measure out the real estate.

Problem is,when a rule change does make sense, the most important ones needed to interpret them, can’t cope with the copious amount of changes built up over many season.
Good commonsense umpiring pretty much goes by the wayside,no thanks to the AWFULL Commission and the Rules Commitee.
LEAVE THE GAME ALONE YOU BLOODY TWITS!!!!!!

Re: New rules and scoring
I have noticed that when teams have just a minute or two and the lead is very narrow, somehow they muck up the 6,6,6 rule and the umps need to delay the game to arrange the team on the field and so cool any momentum.
Suns this week, Freo last week. Funny that.

Re: New rules and scoring
I suspect that as the year rolls on the teams that have mid-field bulls and grunt players will start benefitting. The reason why I'd like to see Stringer in the guts a lot more often.
The 666 is only relevant at the centre bounce - we haven't been strong in this department since 1821. Our quick scoring predominantly comes from sling-shotting from the half-back line.
