As on 'older' person I can remember when cricket was played without helmets, people got hurt and hit fairly regulary until hemets were introduced. I`m thinking helmets (not necessarily 'helmets' as such,) BUT DEFFINATELY HEAD PROTECTION, there should be lightweight sweat-absorbing materials that can be used, mainly for the temples and back of the head. Of course they would be in team colours. (I reckon it`s a pure fluke (with the pace of the game and the ammount of collisions it hasn`t happened yet) thank god. But with all the concussion related issues that is happening (including men being driven to suicide) we must protect the head at all costs.
I was thinking like a foam filled (for lightness) terry rowelling cloth covered for sweat absortion)moulded for head just tied on like a life-savers cap, or similar.
And yes you youngsters, cricket really was played without helmets, not so long ago.

Love what you said mate, but it triggered early day memories of Helmets, courtesy of 1 Tony Greig,at Gloucester Park.
I think we all know the rest, with Rodney Marsh's gem of a one liner!
I agree Des, there needs to be investment in head protection for AFL. All this bullshit talk about “but the science doesn’t back it up” reluctance to introduce such a thing, needs to stop.
Of course it will make a difference ffs. Even if it makes a small percentage of a difference, it is worth it.
Combine that with a proper re-think of holding the ball interpretations - blowing the whistle a lot quicker, will prevent a tackle progressing to a slinging, dragging down, or driving down action.
If they are serious about head trauma, these changes are absolutely necessary.
50 f****** years ago cricket introduced helmets. Think about that for a minute…
