Aker gives Dons thumbs-up

JASON Akermanis gave a clue yesterday to his possible new football home in giving a frank and glowing summary of Essendon.
The outspoken midfielder also mentioned the Western Bulldogs as another of his likely choices.
In Queensland after a busy tour of AFL clubs in Victoria, Akermanis said on Triple M that he regarded Essendon as a sleeping giant.
Although the Bombers were second last on the AFL ladder this year, he said their best side was not too bad.
The three-time Brisbane Lions premiership player said he liked the Essendon supporter base and was impressed, too, by the fact that players never seem to want to leave. "They love being around the place, which is great," he said.
Akermanis said he watched the Bombers play the Bulldogs at Telstra Dome on Friday night closely, commenting on the Dogs' midfield.

Gees i'm not sure about Solomon being traded, but then again if Rama chooses to retire.... he may feel its not a bad time to leave.
I listened to the inteview with AKA on MMM Sat and he sounded like we were his number 1 choice. He was v.impressed with us as a football club.
I reckon he and Sheedy would get on pretty well as long as he doesn't overstep the mark, then he'd be f*****..
Me personally thinks no go, use our draft picks for the future of this club not the interim.

I think Soloman and a pick 36 for acker will be our shot at him. But dont discount another club offering a better deal to the Brisbane Lions and him getting traded to just about anywhere.
The bottom line is that Acker is a contracted player and as such the ball is in the Lions court as Acker does not have the option of nominating the the PS draft and leaving Brissie high and dry.
I think Soloman will suite Leigh Matthews style, big bodied and reasonably mobile enforcer, with the 1 scott down and another to go as well as leppich, Soloman could fill in that role accross half back that they have been missing.
Despite his poor season I think people undervalue his ability (and trade value) due to the fact that he has been thrown roles from FB to CHB to midfielder this year to cover our depleted stocks when clearley he is best suited to HBF or BP.
