The Draft.

Post by F111 »

We have picks 17, 20, 62, 71.

Should we be going for inside or outside mids?

I think we will draft a ruckman.

I think we need to look at the Hawthorn model and draft excellent users of the ball.

No chance.

Ruckmen are rubbish in this draft and we'll only be using first 2 picks.

I think Thurlow might get the arse and be replaced with another rookie.

FFS, just pick someone who can take a mark and kick a goal.

We've blown our chance of getting a top line mid when we didn't trade for pick 4.

Nakia Cockatoo would be nice with 17.

And then the switched on Garlett cousin with 20 and I will be a happy man.

Wouldn't say no to Menadue either.

He'll be pretty close I'd imagine.

Maybe North with 16? They need speed.

How has he done that?

I didn't think you could have draft prospects train with you?

And meh take Garlett then.

NMFC website;

"There was a family connection at North Melbourne last week as draft hopeful Nakia Cockatoo trained with the team.

Nakia’s grandfather Robert played in the club’s reserves and under 19’s teams throughout the 80’s, and is described by former team-mate Darren Crocker as ‘one of the most talented players’ he ever lined up alongside."

Looked at a bit of footage of Jarrod Garlett. Very quick and elusive. We need something like that. It worried me that his disposal efficiency in that package was about 5% though...

After National Draft but before PSD players that missed out can train with clubs to try to impress them.

AFL club Essendon shows interest in listing Deer Park livewire Kwame McHarg as a rookie

DAMIEN RACTLIFFE BRIMBANK LEADER OCTOBER 15, 2014 12:57PM

ESSENDON has expressed interest in signing Deer Park livewire Kwame McHarg as a rookie-listed player for next season.

The Bombers have put the explosive 23-year-old through several tests as they contemplate handing McHarg a chance at the top level.

Deer Park president Mark McGoldrick revealed the former Williamstown player was also on the radar of several VFL clubs.

The news follows the Bombers’ interest in securing former Richmond big man Andrew Browne, who has impressed for Essendon District Football League side Keilor in the past two seasons.

“He’s done a rookie testing at Essendon and tested very well,” McGoldrick said of McHarg.

“Indications from him at the moment are if he’s unsuccessful, he will stay at the club. But there are some VFL clubs interested in him, too.”

McGoldrick said the club is happy for McHarg to pursue a career at the higher level.

“It’s what our football club is all about. We see it as a feather in our cap,” he said.

McHarg enjoyed a stellar year for the Lions in the Western Region Football League this season.

He finished fourth in the Barry Priest Medal and also booted seven goals to take out best-on-ground honours in the Lions’ 77-point grand final win against Spotswood.

McGoldrick said Brett Guerra, who has signed as coach at Chelsea, is the only Deer Park player to have committed elsewhere for 2015, while two-time premiership boss Marc Bullen is set to coach again next season.
