Is there any reason to risk Laverde or Shiel this week?
Cox playing VFL this week!
Feel bad for Harry Jones, that is two years in a row where he has missed an extended period. He was playing his role well for the first month of the season too.
Laverde's AC joint should be right to go...
Shiel has a calf. A few hours on a flight might not be the best for a leg strain of any sort.
However, do they take the view that we're playing a team that's struggled quite a bit and give them another week regardless? I think I'd do that with Shiel. Calf injuries can be annoying and repetitive.
Lav otoh might do well with the run. A few years back they played Hurls straight back into the ones after an AC injury. I think it was a final too and we lost it. Ridley made way for him. Playing Hurls was probably a mistake then.
The selections will be interesting.
I'd imagine match-up wise we are ok with BZT on Allen and Baldwin on anyone else.
Another week with Caldwell & Hobbs getting plenty of time in the middle can only be a positive for the team going forward.

if harry jones' role was to do next to nothing then i guess he was. jones was poor this season in the games he played. i was expecting continued improvement from last season but he regressed.

It all depends on the measures you look at. He was used further up the ground in the games he played and his contested work was well above his previous season’s averages.
I suspect he was carrying a hair trigger all along, and it may has restricted the way he moved and carried himself in general despite the work he actually put in those contested situations.

I suggest you watch a little closer.
We now play a system based style of football, that means to ever player is going to star. Jones played an important role in the forward line within that system, his high work rate created solace in behind for other forwards to lead into. For example Langford doesn’t kick 5 against the Gold Coast without the work of Jones.

If Tsatas makes it back this year, he should be given a couple of games to get him used to the smell of the big time. Probably forward pocket or Sub.
He is another that Adelaide will be looking to take back in 4 years time if he comes good

so who's playing this "role" now that harry jones has been out?

What’s Shiel gonna do next… slip on a banana peel and strain a calf?

We don't have any key forward size players capable of doing it. Stringer, Weideman & Langford will always stay closer to goal. Perkins, Guelfi & Snelling have been going further up the ground over the last few weeks when starting forward.
Guelfi is probably one who could do it with Walla & Menzie currently in the side as the small forwards.
I think Walla gets a rest this week so will be interesting to see how that changes the dynamic of the forward line once again.

Midseason draft is 31 May
I am sure we can wrangle a second player onto the list
Stewart should be out for the season and excuse me if I an wrong, didn't Wright have a 9 week duration when he first made the list... almost 9 weeks ago?
I hope the selectors choose someone from the draft, who isn't out injured every second or third week. Please try and do that, please!

Left ankle was iced though.
BS said he was just managed off.
Now reported as his original foot / ankle injury.
Seriously, wtf is going on?
Missed with his ankle initially. Then missed again to an unrelated bleeder on a corkie. Then missed because of a calf. Then played and got injured - reported as a calf, but he’s ok / managed, to know reported as a re-injury of his foot / ankle.

Some of the club's communications are ridiculous.
On the injuries front, they mess around on a weekly basis. It's like they want supporters to be in the dark and simply accept whatever team rolls onto the field on game day.
On the other hand, they sometimes pretend like we're all best mates with the players. Last year was "Rish" & "Rath". The other day in a social media post they referred to "Dos". I've followed this club for decades and had no idea who they meant. (It was Laverde). And yesterday they mention "Lij" (Elijah Tsatas).
Wish they'd make up their mind if they want us to be inner sanctum or not.
(Also wish they stop using player nicknames)

Yes, some of their nicknaming is cringey. Lij? Groan. Surely they can be a little more inventive or imaginative. Tzatziki would be a tastier option.

Eli works for me.
Re injury reporting, whilst I like to know what the state of injuries are, I think that part of it is about keeping info close to the chest and away from the opposition, preferring to add uncertainty for them when sorting match ups etc. I have no problem with keeping them guessing as much as us. The longer term ones aren't an issue, we mostly know that, it's the week to week that gets the mixed messaging usually.
