2024 Round 18 Ess Vs Melb

Post by s'dreams »

Gawn has been ruled out for at least 2-4 weeks with a chip to the base of his right fibula.

Tom Fullarton (ex-Brisbane) and/or Van Rooyen or Tom McDonald will ruck.

So - No need for Goldy to come in. Draper should ruck solo with a chop out from 2MP. Caddy should remain.

is this the end of the road for heppel. he was listed as "managed" last week. that usually means he back in the following week.

it is strange they would rest him now this far into the season esp. just coming off a bye recently.

An awkward week for selection.
Would have been more awkward if Gawne was playing, but he's not so Goldstein will be "managed" again.
You'd think Heppell would come back in, and that probably means Hind gets a spell.

If Brad was true to his word, he'd should be trying to pump games into Roberts, Bryan, Hayes - for the longer term benefit. But I'm guessing he won't.

Why do we never omit players, just "Manage" them?

FMD - Essendon has gone inside f50 10 times for one goal this quarter. Melbourne inside F50 5 times for 3 goals.

We went too big. There are some lazy footballers in our forwardline.

Our disposals are absolutely atrocious.

Our positionings around marking contests are also pathetic. I mean, it always falls into their laps after marking contests. They simply know where to plant themselves in case the balls goes at the back or at the side. We have no clue.

It is time to move Cox on.

He was on the wing against Langton.

Cox: 5 kicks, 7 HB, 2 marks and 1 behind at 50% accuracy
Langdon: 15 K, 16HB, 8 marks and 1 goal at 80% accuracy.
Cox couldn't even keep him accountable.

While we are about it, our small/med forwards were hopeless.

Also - test Oliver for cocaine. He is playing today like he is back on the gear.

But I bet they drop Caddy before anyone else.

Just horrible. Incredibly low footy IQ. We went wide, kicked to a contest (if not straight to them) so many times.

Then finally in the last ten minutes we realise going direct might work better. Well, derrrr.

Also on my hitlist:

Guelfi - for a defensive forward ... he wasn't. Tissue paper in today's rain would have been more effective.

Perkins - Was he on McVie? Or was it Windsor? I don't know. Probably nobody on the Melbourne side knew who he was on either. But he still seemed to be out of position every time the ball was near him.

Kelly - This guy leaked more than the Australian Army with two Russian spies.

Stringer - The idea is to either kick goals or kick it to a teammate (which he managed to do twice in the game). Not to see how high you can kick the ball. It was wet and all he managed to do was to feed May and Lever.

Heppell. Old man time is catching up.

McKay... He played OK - but does he ever kick it forward when he intercept marks? All that meant was that some of our players got some extra stats and it gave time for the Melbourne players to set up.

I’d consider giving Perkins a spell and bring in Setterfield or Hobbs. He’s just getting involved much at all.
