2024/25 Trade rumors

Post by s'dreams »

Despite EFC only having two draft picks in the coming 2024 Draft currently picks 8 and 28) ... there is a huge rumor that the club is chasing Luke Davies-Uniacke from North (where else?).

As he is contracted until the end of 2025, it would take two first round picks to pry him out of Arden St. Under AFL rules, we would have to find another pick from somewhere to recruit 2 players from the draft.

Doesn't this sound familiar? Haven't we learned anything???

Depends on who the "we" you referred to is.
If "we" means supporters, then No, we haven't learnt anything. We ought to have learnt that rumours are pointless, and that we can't simply recruit every 'star' that is rumoured to be available, and that we need to understand draft/trade rules as well as our Club's draft/trade capital when considering all of the above.

No we haven't learned. After all, we still support this club.

So Oliver and Bailey Smith have nominated Geelong as their preferred club for 2025.

Another couple of Cotton On Ambassadorships must be in the works.

I thought the AFL tightened up this sort of nonsense since Chris Judd and the 15 Carlton footballers were found to be Visy Ambassadors.

Silence is the word. Trying to offload and gain picks I think but Kaks is on the bus to Tulla regardless.

Heard a snip that Laverde was being shopped but no takers. The Package is being packaged with Dylo likely off as well.

That’s s as bout the gist of all and sundry.

Simply no creeto wants to nominate us.

We have made 23 list changes over the last 3 years. And have to clean up the mess that Dorodo left.

I wouldn't be unhappy for no trades inbound. This means that people on our list like Caddy, Tsatas, Hobbs and El-Hawli will be given opportunity and Lual and possibly even Baldwin (should he be relisted) could get a go. It would be great if Reid and Ridley manage to overcome the injury that dogged them this year.

Finally, there have been a number of people who need to pull their fingers out 2MP, Redman, Jones, Draper, Cox and Gresham should be rightly nervous in 2025.

Interesting isn't it?
Last year we were a "destination club".
This year, a 3rd-string GWS guy (Conor Stone) has turned us down.

Essendon trades 2024 first-round pick (currently No.9) and a 2025 third-round pick to Melbourne in exchange for two 2024 second-round picks (currently No.28 and No.40), two 2024 third-round picks (currently No.46 and No.54), a 2024 fourth-round pick (No.65) and a 2025 first-round pick.

So
Out: 2024 Pick 9 2025 3rd round pick
In: 5 picks this year + Melbourne's first round pick 2025.

So in 2024 we have 28, 31, 40, 46, 54, 64

I'd suggest a handshake agreement that Melbourne won't use either pick 8 or 9 to bid on Kako (I suspect Melbourne were also threatening that they would make an early bid just to provide leverage for this trade).

That means there are enough points to match a bid for Kako should St Kilda make a bid even using pick 6.

Pick 6 = 1751 points.

Essendon needs to match with a pick total of 1751 -15% = 1751 - 263 = 1,488 points

Points for picks (from https://www.afl.com.au/news/1241333/exp ... gency-2024):
28 = 677
31 = 606
40 = 429
46 = 331
54 = 220
65 = 90

So this can be matched by using picks 31, 40, 46 and 54 for a total point score of 1,586 points

This leaves pick 28 (3 picks earlier) plus pick 65 (a 4th round pick.... whoopee) + Kako + an extra first round pick for 2025.
I think we also get the pick matching 1586-1488 = 98 points which can be used to move pick 65 (whoopee) to pick 57 (182 points ... double whoopee!)

It also gives more leeway for sweetening the deal for Stringer with earlier pick swaps

I hope this isn't too confusing :?

Update:

We need to use the next available picks... so Picks 28, 31, 40 would be used... :-(

thx for the detailed post about that melb trade. thats what i was concerned about.

so we have to use those first available picks for kako should some club bid on him? as opposed to any picks we choose to try and get the points necessay to match?

The point was we get Kako... and still have some late picks in case St KIlda bids on Kako with pick 5.

And we probably have some intel on next year's draft that says 2 (likely early) first round picks would be useful

If the Saints don't bid on Kako, we get a first round this year + Kako ... and likely an early 3rd round.

Does that mean the satch pick is used in this scenario?

The point of trading #9 for batch with picks points to accumulate against other bids means it can be done.

But two of three is exampled here if bud is #7 but what if earlier bid is bunkered?

Points and reaps are done?
