The AFL has been accused of staging secret drug tests in bombshell cover-up claims made in federal parliament on Tuesday night.
Federal MP Andrew Wilkie’s revealed he had a signed statement from former Melbourne doctor Zeeshan Arain in which the latter claimed the AFL conducted illicit drug tests to help players avoid being detected on game days.
Arain was let go by the Demons in October 2020 after an eight-year stint as the club’s doctor, yet his axing came only a few days after voicing his concerns about the Dees’ culture.
The doctor has now claimed players who had confided in their clubs about their drug-taking activity would take “off the books” drug tests, as well as feign injuries to ensure their system were clear of prohibited substances.
The AFL defended the principles behind the policy’s approach, saying “we are unapologetic about club and AFL doctors taking the correct steps to ensure that any player who they believe has an illicit substance in their system does not take part in any AFL match and that doctor patient confidentially is upheld and respected”.
AFL chief executive Andrew Dillon said the practice would continue.
But aren't they bringing the game into disrepute? Their usual line when they don't like something...
“The medical interests and welfare of players is a priority for the AFL given everything we know about the risks facing young people generally and those who play our game in particular,” the league said.

Why do you think the Major Parties Refuse to have Wilkie's Documents tabled?

It is if pollies in the Major Parties won't get their head out of their arse and the Clubs table the Documents.Despite what AFL Doctors say, just how much rehabilitation do the usual suspects 1% need, before they test the patience of others once that support recidivists once too often?

Seems like the AFL protecting the AFL and they're getting away with it.

Seems like it.But I hope it's something Wilkie chews on for quite some time to keep the Bastards on their Toes!
As someone of the radio said last week - it is time for Anika Wells (the Australian Minister of sport) to get off the board of WADA as there is a clear conflict of interest with the roles of Minister of Sport for Australia (who should be demanding just why the f*** the Chinese Swimming team was let off the hook for "inadvertently ingesting trimetazidine [TMZ]" because it was accidentally spread around the kitchen of the Huayang Holiday Hotel in Shijiazhuang where the team was staying). and the Committee member for WADA who is expected to support the processes and decisions reached by the WADA protocols.
Shayna Jack served 2 years for "unintentional ingestion of ligandrol", including being banned from the training facilities, contact with other members of the Australian squad and coaches.
Peter Bol was removed from international competition and from access to training facilities and coaches for over 4 months ... while they tested his B Sample... This has wrecked his preparation and likely his career.
Then there is the little matter of 34 Essendon Players who were found guilty on appeal by WADA, even though there was never a single positive test ... not a coherent chain of evidence which is required in international law ... simply the circumstantial evidence from the hyperbolic media reporting and the testimony of two convicted drug importers and users... against the testimony of many others.
I guess it is easier for WADA to show that it is tough by suspending a team that is NOT on the international stage and is unimportant to 130+ countries on earth ... than to suspend the entire Chinese Olympic Swimming team.
Where WADA is important, the Olympics, it has failed in every single Olympic Games since its inception in 1999. There has been systematic drug cheating in every Olympics.
