Retro Rage 2020

Post by grassy1 »

Didn’t see too much of Countdown this month, but when I did,it seemed to focus on the early 80’s,1982 in particular for some reason.

One from August 17,1980 that grabbed my attention was a song from Jona Lewie,Kitchen and Parties (?),that if I’m not mistaken was featured in the Interesting Episode of The Young Ones, when the boys have a Party.Things really warm up,after the local Pub shuts and everyone comes in from there,in an absolute stampede.Someone must have brought a stereo in,as the Pigs had already smashed the boys’ record player.

Also on that episode was a promo for a Xanadu Dance Competition, featuring DJ’s from various States, which included Gary Shannon from 6PM in Perth and your very own Gavin Wood. But I didn’t catch which Station he worked for in Melbourne. So who did Gavin work for in 1980,folks? :D

My first memory of Gavin was from EON-FM.
History is scant, but pretty sure he was there in '79 when they started. May have been on AM radio at 3XY and 3AK as well before that.

Just wish Rage would put Countdown on a bit more, every 3 months say,so we could hear Gav and Molly at work that little bit more.

I got a shock just seeing him,out of the booth.

Wonder which state Won that Xanadu Dance Competition and who put their hand up to do it,waaaay back in 1980. 8)

Confession - Think I saw Zanadu at the Melody Drive In,in Rockingham,WA.Can’t remember the other Movie.Got the weird feeling it was a Walter Matthau Comedy. Was Little Miss Marker released in 1980?

Retro Rage 3 years on,saw an Episode from Countdown circa 1980(I think),with John Lennon’s Starting Over Number 1 and 3 of the guys from Dr Hook attracting a Big Studio Audience that night.

I thought Gavin was the announcer on Countdown from 1975 to 1982 before he joined EON FM.

My 1979 recollection seems to be mistaken. But he was at EON in 1980. At 3XY before that.
Yeah, he did Countdown at the same time for a while.

Cracking song. Liked Watching the Wheels better though.

Good times great music back in the day.

Fritter and waste the hours in an offhand way!
